Do the Math
Let's see...and math was NOT my favorite subject in the world. ElB, please correct me if I am wrong.
$9.7 trillion divided by 138,000,000 million taxpayers (2007 numbers) = approximately $70,000 per taxpayer.
So, I ask you; what will stimulate the economy more (If you believe in such nonsense) giving that money to PBO, Pelosi & Reid or to "Joe and Betty Taxpayer?"

SCOTUS Already
First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers go out to Justice Ginsburg. I have lost two dear friends to pancreatic cancer and it is absolutely brutal.
On the flip (pant?) side, PBO has a little more homework to do. Hopefully, the vetting process will do a better job than with is previous appointments.
More than likely the only question asked of the new nominee will be: "Will you uphold the killing of babies?"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said in an interview aired on Monday he worried that detainees freed from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo, Cuba, might resume attacks on the United States.
But he told NBC News that closure of the prison was a matter of upholding U.S. values and law, and that a failure to do so would ultimately make Americans less secure.
"Can we guarantee that they're not going to try to participate in another attack? No," Obama said. "But what I can guarantee is that if we don't uphold our Constitution and our values, that over time that will make us less safe. And that will be a recruitment tool for organizations like al-Qaeda."
That's rich. See, the Constitution is only relevant when it is convenient for the administration. And in this case it is really NOT relevant for his reasoning. By any stretch of the imagination or wrodsmithing, the detainees in "Gitmo" are NOT US cirtizens and do NOT fall under purview of the Constitution.

Didn't We Fight a War Over This?
Read in a "Director's Notes" from a local production of "Ragtime:"
"In this machine-aged world of richness and technological advances, we are still surrounded by our legacy of slavery and social injustice..."
I'm not sure where this director lives...well, I do but that's beside the point...but I am not surrounded by "our legacy of slavery." Honest Abe took care of that from war standpoint and Congress took care of slavery with an amendment to the Constitution. Slavery and its legacy have been abolished in this country...rightfully so. This heinous, abomination of humanity was rectified over 125 years ago.
