Fruit from the Tree

It doesn't fall far. Turner Gill is my all-time favorite Cornhusker player. He ran the option like no other because he understood the chess match that went along with the option. He later became the QB coach at Nebraska under Tom Osborne and Coach Osborne was the best man at Coach Gill's wedding. I will go to my grave with the belief that these are two of the finest men you will ever want to meet.

Joe Dailey was the QB during the coaching upheaval at NU. Joe was the starting QB who had the duty of trying to understand the Bill Callahan West Coast offense. Instead of arguing and fighting, Joe took the bull by the horns and studied and learned as much as he could. Unfortunately, his physical abilities were not well-suited for the WCO. He transfered to North Carolina for his senior season. Joe was a quality athlete who got caught in the whirlwind of a coaching change (a bad one I might add) but he never let that define who he was as a player or a man.

And now, the man who recruited him to Nebraska has given him a chance to coach. This is the epitome of coaching and mentoring. Good luck to Joe and Coach Gill...who would still look great roaming the sidelines of Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoons from Labor Day to Thanksgiving...and a Buffalo-Nebraska championship game in the future!

GO BIG RED!!!
